TEAM BASED ACTIVITIES
The nature of sailing makes it ideal for a team-based activity whether the objective is primarily pleasure and bonding, or whether structured team building and learning outcomes are sought.
Sailing a 50ft catamaran requires teamwork, leadership, collaboration, trust, communication, and coordination—all core skills of high performing teams.
We offer two team-based activities – Team Bonding, and Team Building.

Option 1: Team Bonding
This is a 3 – 4 hour sail on Darwin Harbour with the primary objectives being pleasure, relaxation, and getting to know each other. We provide two crew and catering (anti-pasto platters, tea, coffee, cold water), and BYO drinks are welcome. Guests are welcome to assist in sailing and navigation activities for example setting the sails, taking the helm etc.
The sail commences with a safety briefing once boarding is complete and is based on our “Where The Wind Blows” cruise (http://fishdarwin.com.au/where-the-wind-blows/).
You will be sailing about Sundancer NT, a 50ft luxury sailing catamaran.
PRICE: $119 per person, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 28 people.
Option 2: Team Building
This is a 3 – 4 hour action-learning sail on Darwin Harbour with the primary objectives being to gain an understanding team members strengths, and to reinforce the importance of teamwork in delivering successful outcome.
This activity focuses on the importance of Strategic and Operational Planning combined with individual planning and individual actions to achieve positive results. We also introduce the element of flexibility and responsiveness to changes in the environment, through the manufacturing of an unplanned “crisis”. This is a critical aspect of effective teams.
The exercise is conducted around an action-learning framework, and is both fun and enjoyable, with real and positive outcomes for the team.
Depending on numbers, the group is generally split into smaller teams, one tasked with “provisioning” (catering), one tasked with sailing, and the other tasked with skippering and navigation. One or more members of each team are appointed as observers and quality assurers.
The objective is for the team to successfully chart the course, skipper the boat, and deliver an enjoyable cruise for all members. All activities are conducted by the team members themselves under careful supervision of two competent crew and a facilitator. Our overriding objective at all times is safety.
This option requires a pre-activity meeting with the team and our facilitator (preferably 2 days prior, but at a minimum 1 day prior so that the provisioning team have time to shop), and a post-activity de-brief. The de-brief focuses on lessons learned both at a team and at an individual level; identification of individual and team strengths and weaknesses, and translation of key learnings into workplace learning.
PRICE: $139 per person, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 28 people.
